The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to uphold peace, compassion, and unity as Muslims around the world mark Eid-el-Maulud, the annual celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a goodwill message issued on Friday, Wike extended warm greetings to FCT residents on behalf of the administration, describing the occasion as a timely reminder of the Prophet’s enduring teachings of acceptance, love, and kindness.
“Eid-el-Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT to uphold our commitment to values of acceptance, love, and kindness that the Prophet preached,” the minister said. “It is a time to remember the importance of compassion and the virtues of togetherness that should guide our interactions with one another, irrespective of our beliefs.”
Wike commended residents for their role in sustaining peace and harmony in the nation’s capital, noting that their cooperation had enabled his administration to record steady progress. He also expressed appreciation to security agencies, healthcare workers, and essential service providers for keeping the city safe and functional during the festive period.
Reaffirming the FCT Administration’s commitment, the minister said infrastructure development, security, healthcare, and emergency services remain top priorities to improve residents’ quality of life. He, however, urged citizens to play their part through civic responsibility.
“As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbours, regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community,” he said. “Participate in programmes that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. I also urge you all to meet your obligations to government and society by obeying traffic rules, paying your taxes, and engaging in civic activities.”
Wike further appealed to residents to use the occasion to pray for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, appreciating the President’s support for the FCT Administration and his efforts toward the development of the capital city.
The minister also called for prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress in both the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.
Eid-el-Maulud, observed annually by Muslims, is marked in Nigeria with prayers, public lectures, and acts of charity. Leaders across the country often use the occasion to stress the need for peaceful coexistence and unity in a nation of diverse cultures and faiths.
This year’s celebration comes as the FCTA accelerates infrastructure projects and reforms to address the city’s growing population, security challenges, and demand for improved public services, with the Federal Government pledging continued support for Abuja’s development as the nation’s capital.
