Former Minister of Interior and current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will lose the 2027 general elections, saying Nigerians are ready for change under the ADC.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin after commissioning the newly built Kwara State ADC Secretariat along Basin Road, Aregbesola said the APC’s growing intolerance toward opposition parties was evidence of its declining popularity and fear of defeat.
“If the APC is truly confident of its strength, it wouldn’t be hounding or hunting opposition members across the country,” Aregbesola stated.
He accused the ruling party of using intimidation tactics against opposition members nationwide, including in Lagos, Kebbi, and Kaduna States.
“APC’s actions show that they know they are no longer popular,” he continued. “The party that will benefit from their unpopularity is ADC. Regardless of all the grandstanding, by the grace of God, ADC will take over the leadership of Nigeria and most of the states come 2027.”
Aregbesola, who served as Governor of Osun State between 2010 and 2018, also criticized governors who recently defected to the APC, describing them as “enemies of the people.”
“The governors moving to APC are not doing so out of principle. They are hated by their people — good riddance to bad rubbish,” he added.
Joining him at the event, former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC, echoed similar optimism about the party’s chances in 2027.
“The ADC has been well-prepared and is here to stay. What we are witnessing today in Kwara is the dawn of a new political order — one built on the people’s will and vision,” Ahmed said. “This marks the beginning of a new direction in Nigeria’s political experience.”
Also present at the event, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Youth and Sports and ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, dismissed the PDP as “politically irrelevant,” saying Nigerians were disillusioned with both the ruling and main opposition parties.
“The PDP has lost its sense of purpose, and the APC has lost the people’s trust,” Abdullahi said. “The ADC represents the alternative Nigerians have been waiting for.”
The event attracted party leaders, youth groups, and supporters who expressed confidence that the ADC would emerge as a major political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
