The Federal Government has extended the phase two of eased COVID-19 lockdown which originally ought to expire on Wednesday, July 29, by another one week. It will now end on August 6. The Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, announced the extension on Monday when the PTF addressed the media. He said that the extension was necessitated by the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, which coincided with the expiration of the current phase. The federal government has announced August 4, 2020 as the date for resumption of secondary schools across the country. This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Ben Bem Goong, director of press and public relations, ministry of education. A gas explosion that occurred at a storey building on Palmgroove Estate, Cappa Avenue area of Lagos State on Monday has resulted in the death of an unidentified man with three victims sustaining varying degrees of injuries. Emergency responders have taken the injured persons to the hospital for treatment. It was gathered that the explosion was caused by gas leakage from the cylinder reportedly used in filling the air conditioner of the building. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, in its daily report noted that Nigeria on Sunday recorded five hundred and fifty-five confirmed new cases of Coronavirus pandemic. The health agency on Sunday, 25 July at about 11:00 pm confirmed the new figures on its verified official account on the microblogging site, Twitter.
