The Nigeria Police Force has formally arraigned Abubakar Mohammed Aboki, a Nigerian national recently extradited from the United Arab Emirates, on a six-count charge related to an alleged $307,500 fraud scheme involving luxury vehicles.
The suspect, who was flown into Nigeria on May 23, 2025, was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, July 1, following the conclusion of investigations, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi.
The charges against Aboki include Criminal Breach of Trust, Obtaining by False Pretence, Forgery, and Money Laundering, stemming from a high-profile transnational fraud case.
“The suspect is accused of defrauding an international automobile dealer under the false pretense of facilitating the shipment of luxury vehicles from Dubai to Nigeria,” ACP Adejobi said.
According to investigators, Aboki allegedly diverted the funds meant for the car shipment for personal use and used a forged Bill of Lading to mislead the complainant.
The court, after hearing the charges, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service at Keffi, Nasarawa State, pending the outcome of a bail application scheduled for hearing on July 17, 2025.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring justice in high-profile and transnational criminal cases.
“This case underscores the importance of international law enforcement cooperation. We remain determined to dismantle criminal networks that exploit global systems for fraudulent gain,” the IGP stated.
He also assured the public of the Police Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s criminal justice system through diligent investigation and effective prosecution.
The arraignment marks a significant step in holding alleged financial criminals accountable, particularly those operating across borders and undermining the integrity of international trade.
