The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has taken delivery of over 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks as part of preparations for the nationwide rollout of its fuel distribution programme, scheduled to begin August 15, 2025.
Inspections by Vanguard revealed that additional trucks are expected in the coming days, bringing the fleet closer to the refinery’s planned 4,000 CNG trucks. The vehicles will support the distribution of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel directly to filling stations, industrial sites, and large-scale consumers across Nigeria.
The refinery, which operates at a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has invested over ₦720 billion in the initiative. The company estimates that the programme will save Nigerians more than ₦1.7 trillion annually by cutting down on distribution costs and stabilising fuel supply.
Under the plan, the privately owned refinery will absorb over ₦1.07 trillion annually in fuel transportation costs, effectively removing the burden from fuel marketers and other distributors.
The scheme is also expected to significantly benefit the country’s more than 42 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by reducing energy costs and improving profitability.
From August 15, Dangote’s direct delivery service will aim to meet Nigeria’s daily demand for refined products — about 65 million litres in total. This includes 45 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 15 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), and 5 million litres of aviation fuel.
The refinery’s management maintains that the initiative will help reduce pump prices, ease inflationary pressure, and improve fuel availability nationwide, despite concerns raised by some industry stakeholders.
