Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has gracefully accepted comedian AY’s public apology following a controversial and poorly received joke directed at him.
AY faced substantial backlash recently when a video of his stand-up performance in Warri, where he humorously referenced Davido’s multiple baby mamas, circulated on social media. During the show, he instructed the DJ not to play Davido’s song “Unavailable” as an introduction, jokingly questioning how someone “unavailable” could father children.
In response to the public outcry, AY issued a heartfelt apology via his official Instagram account on Sunday, expressing remorse for the way the joke had unfolded in Warri. He acknowledged that the joke had been poorly delivered and regretted any negative consequences it had caused. AY wrote, “I am very sorry for the way that joke came out in Warri. You have every right to be angry after seeing how it was used by blogs. Please understand that we are all constantly learning in the entertainment business. I deserve any backlash coming my way for the poorly delivered joke in Warri. So, no excuses at all, my Aburo. No reason for them. I remain your number one fan, and I love you, @davido.”
In a gracious response, Davido commented on AY’s post to convey that there were no lingering issues between them. He wrote, “Nothing spoil,” indicating that he had accepted the apology and harbored no ill feelings.
This exchange highlights the maturity and professionalism of both Davido and AY in handling a sensitive situation within the entertainment industry.
