The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, June 12, will be observed as a public holiday to commemorate Democracy Day. This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the occasion, urging them to reflect on the efforts of the nation’s founding fathers and to ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity. The statement emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and governance.
“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity,” the statement read.
The minister also highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to implementing positive reforms aimed at reviving the nation’s economy and enhancing security. He called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to recognize the progress made so far and to look forward to a brighter future for Nigeria’s democracy.
Tunji-Ojo’s statement underscored the significance of Democracy Day as a time for national reflection and a reaffirmation of the values that underpin the country’s democratic governance.
