Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The high-level regional summit is taking place on Sunday, July 19, at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown, bringing together West African leaders, government officials, policymakers, and business stakeholders to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the region.
The meeting is expected to focus on adopting key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation. Discussions will center on promoting peace and security, deepening democratic governance, accelerating economic growth, enhancing trade, and advancing regional integration across ECOWAS member states.
In addition to Heads of State and Government, the summit will be attended by ministers, senior government officials, and representatives of regional institutions who will explore collaborative approaches to sustainable development and other shared priorities.
Shettima is participating in the gathering on behalf of President Tinubu, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the ECOWAS agenda and ongoing efforts to foster stability and economic prosperity across West Africa.
The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements in Sierra Leone.
