LAGOS — The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has adjourned the trial of renowned gospel music promoter, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, until September 26, 2025, in a case involving alleged foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering amounting to $397,106.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke postponed further hearing after the defence informed the court that talks were ongoing to resolve the matter out of court.
The defendant, along with his company Eezee Global Concepts Limited, was first arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 7, 2025, on a seven-count amended charge. The case was initially handled by Justice Owoeye before it was reassigned to Justice Aneke.
According to the EFCC, Eezee Tee allegedly engaged in illegal foreign exchange dealings and laundered significant sums without the authorization of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in violation of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions Act.
One of the charges reads:
“That you, EZEKIEL ONYEDIKACHUKWU THANKGOD and EEZEE GLOBAL CONCEPTS LIMITED, sometime in June 2023 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, not being an authorized buyer of foreign exchange currency appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria under Section 5(1) of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act CAP F34 LFN 2004, negotiated a foreign exchange transaction to wit: the Naira equivalent of the sum of $52,895.00 USD with Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke and thereby committed an offence.”
During Friday’s proceedings, the EFCC presented its first prosecution witness, Mohammed Timta. However, defence counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), appealed for more time, noting that both parties were close to reaching a possible settlement.
“We are on the verge of reaching an agreement and request one last chance. If we are unable to reach a resolution, the prosecution will commence trial,” Ojukwu stated.
In response, Justice Aneke granted the request and adjourned the matter to September 26, 2025, for further hearing or possible trial commencement.
Eezee Tee is widely known in the Nigerian gospel music scene as the founder of Eezee Conceptz, a record label credited with managing several high-profile gospel artists.
