
Renowned actress Funke Akindele has recently expressed her deep longing for her late mother, R.B. Adebanjo-Akindele, to witness the remarkable success of her latest cinematic creation, “A Tribe Called Judah.”
In a heartfelt three-minute video shared on her Instagram page on January 6, 2024, Akindele conveyed her gratitude to God for the overwhelming success of the film and dedicated it to her late mother. She expressed, “I wish she was here today to see all these, but I thank God for everything and I am sure she is smiling wherever she is.”
The movie, which premiered on December 10, 2023, at the Filmhouse Cinema IMAX in Lekki, Lagos, holds a special place in Akindele’s heart as it incorporates elements of her late mother’s essence. During the premiere, she highlighted the movie’s focus on the challenges faced by single parents and mothers in society, providing insights into the struggles and dynamics of rebellious children.
Acknowledging the integral role of her fans, Akindele credited them for her success, stating, “There would be no one billion naira without you, my incredible fans. Thank you very much. You all have been supporting me over the years and you still push me to be better, God bless you all. I appreciate your comments and reposts. This is for you.”
With the immense success of “A Tribe Called Judah,” Funke Akindele now boasts three positions in the top-grossing Nollywood films of all time. Her previous movies, “Battle on Buka Street” (N668.4m) and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” (N636.1m), secure the second and third spots, respectively.
Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, popularly known as Captain Degzy, the film unfolds the narrative of a family of boys resorting to robbing a mall to fund their mother’s hospital bill. The plot takes an unexpected turn when they encounter armed robbers during their attempt.
The film features a stellar cast, including Timini Egbuson, Jideofor Achufusi, Olumide Oworu, Genoveva Umeh, and Nse Ikpe-Etim, contributing to the undeniable success of “A Tribe Called Judah” in the Nigerian film industry.
