Maria Sol Messi, the younger sister of Argentine football icon Lionel Messi, has been hospitalised following a serious car accident in Miami, forcing the postponement of her planned wedding.
Media reports indicate that the 32-year-old sustained multiple injuries in the crash, including spinal fractures, burns and other bodily harm, after losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a wall. Despite the severity of the incident, she is said to be in stable condition and out of immediate danger.
Argentinian television journalist Ángel de Brito disclosed the development during a broadcast of the programme LAM, noting that Maria Sol would require an extended period of rehabilitation. According to him, the accident has made it impossible for her to proceed with her wedding, which was scheduled to take place in Rosario, Argentina, on January 3.
“She is okay and out of danger, but the wedding will have to be suspended,” de Brito said, citing conversations with members of the Messi family.
Further details provided by Maria Sol’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, revealed that she suffered two fractured vertebrae, as well as fractures to her heel and wrist. It was also disclosed that she reportedly fainted while driving, leading to the crash.
Maria Sol has since returned to her hometown of Rosario, where she has begun rehabilitation for her injuries. Reports suggest that burns sustained in the accident may complicate her recovery, although her condition is said to be improving.
The postponed wedding was to be between Maria Sol and Julián “Tuli” Arellano, a member of Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff. Family members, including Lionel Messi and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, had been expected to attend the ceremony.
A fashion designer and entrepreneur, Maria Sol has largely stayed out of the public spotlight, previously working as a brand manager for The Messi Store before focusing on her personal ventures.
The Messi family has confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude for the support received, as Maria Sol continues her recovery.
