Boxing Legend Suffers Ulcer Flare-Up During Flight from Miami
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson experienced a medical emergency while flying from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, as confirmed by his representatives. The 57-year-old boxing icon became nauseous and dizzy mid-flight, prompting flight attendants to seek immediate medical assistance.
According to eyewitnesses, the situation escalated approximately 30 minutes before the plane was scheduled to land at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The cabin crew issued an urgent call for any doctors on board to assist Tyson, who was visibly unwell.
Upon arrival at LAX, paramedics swiftly boarded the aircraft to provide medical care. The flight, which had already faced a two-hour delay in Miami due to heat issues, was further delayed by 25 minutes as Tyson received treatment on the plane.
Tyson’s representatives spoke to The New York Post, explaining that the former boxer’s symptoms were due to an ulcer flare-up. “Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is doing great,” his representatives stated. “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up. He is appreciative of the medical staff that were there to help him.”
Symptoms of an ulcer flare-up typically include nausea, vomiting, bloating, belching, gas pain, chest pain, and fatigue. Despite the scare, Tyson’s team reassured that he is now recovering well.
The incident occurred just two months before Tyson is scheduled to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a highly anticipated match in Arlington. Tyson has been intensely training for the fight, which includes a temporary cessation of marijuana use—a substance he has previously admitted to using daily—as it is banned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Additionally, Tyson has abstained from sex as part of his rigorous training regimen.
The in-flight emergency was first reported by In Touch, detailing how paramedics were on standby to board the plane immediately upon its arrival. Passengers were informed about Tyson’s condition and were asked to remain seated to facilitate the medical team’s swift entry.
An eyewitness on the flight recounted, “He was in first class, but we were in an exit row. They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter. The stewardess said something like, ‘He’s a really important passenger so we want to make sure he’s OK.’ I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words ‘Mike Tyson’ and she nodded her head yes.”
Despite the unsettling incident, Tyson remains focused on his upcoming bout, determined to overcome this health scare and continue his preparation for the fight with Jake Paul.
