In a dramatic courtroom revelation, auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe detailed the final moments of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, during her testimony before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Ogedengbe testified that Mohbad began vomiting and showing signs of an allergic reaction after she administered a tetanus injection on September 12, 2024. According to her, she was contacted by Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending, to treat Mohbad’s swollen hand at his Lekki residence.
Upon arrival at around 2:30 pm, Ogedengbe administered the tetanus shot to Mohbad’s upper arm. Being aware of the singer’s ulcer condition, she opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac and diluted 4ml of paracetamol with 1ml of water. She also administered a slow 10ml dose of ceftriaxone for a bacterial infection.
However, Mohbad began to feel discomfort and went to the toilet to vomit. When he returned and sat on the floor, Ogedengbe observed goosebumps on his body, which Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, claimed was a normal reaction to injections. Ogedengbe questioned Omowunmi about this reaction, after which Omowunmi took Mohbad to the bathroom and poured water over his head.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to a pharmacy for medication to counter the allergic reaction. They obtained hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion but faced delays due to traffic. Upon their return, they found Mohbad outside the house, being prepared for transport to the hospital. Due to the lack of vehicles and heavy traffic, Mohbad was taken to the hospital on a motorcycle, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Ogedengbe recalled that the medical personnel initially hesitated to treat Mohbad, leading to confusion. His body was eventually returned to his residence around 8 pm. They proceeded to the Orchid Lekki Police Station for a death certificate and were directed to the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah for further reporting.
Following cross-examination by the counsel for Mohbad’s family, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN; Omowunmi’s counsel, Kabir Akingbolu; and the state’s representative, the case was adjourned to March 21, 2024, for further hearing.
The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions announced in February 2025 that Ogedengbe and Sodiq would face prosecution for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Meanwhile, popular artist Abdulazeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, were acquitted of any wrongdoing.
