In a dramatic turn of events, the Ogun State Police Command on Monday declared controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable,” as wanted for his alleged involvement in a violent assault on government officials carrying out their duties.
According to a statement released by Police Spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred on February 5, 2025, around 10:00 a.m. at Oke-Osa in Tigbo Ilu Ota. During an enforcement exercise by three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Ota Zonal Office – TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi – the officials encountered an elderly man at Odogwu Bar, later identified as Portable’s father. When asked for the approved building plan, the man stated that his son was unavailable.
Moments later, Portable, armed with a firearm and other weapons, led a gang of nine assailants in a violent attack on the unarmed enforcement officers. The assault left the officers with multiple injuries, though they managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to the Ota Area Command. The case was subsequently escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
While nine accomplices have already been arrested, Portable evaded capture and remains at large. Despite receiving multiple formal invitations to report to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, he has deliberately ignored the summons without legal representation. Consequently, the police have secured a valid court order declaring him wanted, and they are urging members of the public to provide any information leading to his immediate arrest. Authorities warned that anyone found aiding or harboring the suspect will face legal consequences.
This incident follows a related episode two weeks ago when nine of Portable’s associates were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on a five-count charge, including felony, assault, and armed offenses. Those defendants, aged between 19 and 28, reportedly attacked officers of the Ota Zonal Planning Office while armed with cutlasses and guns, but they pleaded not guilty.
The Ogun State Police Command continues its investigation into both incidents, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order amid growing concerns over security in the region.
