
Stanley Nwabali, the talented goalkeeper of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, was bestowed with a prestigious chieftaincy title on Sunday by the traditional ruler of Mgbede community in Egbema Kingdom, Rivers State, Nzeobi Amida. The title, “Ugo Egbema,” which translates to “The Pride of Egbema Kingdom,” was conferred on Nwabali in recognition of his exceptional performance at the recently concluded 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cote D’Ivoire.
According to reports from a Nigerian sports website, BSN, Amuda, who also serves as the chairman of ONELGA Council of Chiefs, expressed admiration for Nwabali’s contributions to the pride and honor of Egbema Kingdom and ONELGA through his stellar performances for the Super Eagles.
This recognition comes in the wake of other accolades and rewards showered upon Nwabali for his outstanding achievements. Recently, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, presented the Rivers-born goalkeeper with a cash prize of N20 million and conferred upon him the esteemed honor of the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.
In addition to the state-level recognition, President Bola Tinubu extended his appreciation to every player and official of the Nigerian Super Eagles by honoring them with the Member of the Order of the Niger national award. This gesture was in acknowledgment of the team’s commendable performance, which secured the silver medal at the just-concluded AFCON tournament.
Nwabali’s chieftaincy title underscores not only his individual excellence but also serves as a testament to the collective pride and admiration he has garnered for his contributions to Nigerian football on both national and international platforms.
