President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, replacing Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure is set to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was disclosed on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was selected based on his extensive background in digital infrastructure, institutional reforms and examination systems management.
The statement described the 39-year-old academic as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, noting that he would become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history upon assuming office.
Aina earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent and later obtained both a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency stated that the incoming registrar possesses more than 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, system development and institutional reforms.
Aina has also reportedly served as a consultant to examination agencies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity.
The statement further noted that he belongs to several professional bodies such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed optimism that Aina would consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.
