Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump promised Thursday to resolve ongoing international crises and restore American prestige on the world stage, claiming he could “stop wars with a telephone call.” Speaking at the Republican National Convention, Trump painted a bleak picture of the current global situation under President Joe Biden, warning that the world is “teetering on the edge of World War III.”
“We will restore peace, stability, and harmony all throughout the world,” Trump declared, although he did not provide specific details on how he plans to achieve this. “Under our leadership, the United States will be respected again. No nation will question our power, no enemy will doubt our might, our borders will be totally secure.”
Trump attributed the blame for various global conflicts to Biden, including those with origins predating the current administration. “There is an international crisis the likes of which the world has seldom been part of… war is now raging in Europe, in the Middle East, a growing specter of conflict hangs over Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, and all of Asia,” he said. Trump vowed to address these issues if elected for a second term.
“I will end every single international crisis that the current administration has created, including the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump asserted. “But to achieve this future, we must first rescue our nation from failed and even incompetent leadership.”
Trump also demanded the release of Americans held abroad, issuing a stern warning to foreign nations. “The entire world, I tell you this: we want our hostages back, and they better be back before I assume office or you will be paying a very big price,” he said, again without providing specifics.
Additionally, Trump pledged to build a version of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system for the United States, despite the fact that the system is designed for short-range threats and would not be effective against intercontinental missiles, which pose the main danger to the country.
The former president also suggested that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whom he met during his presidency, is eager to see him return to the White House. “I get along with him, he’d like to see me back too. I think he misses me, if you want to know,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks have sparked a mix of anticipation and skepticism, as many await further details on how he plans to implement his ambitious promises. With the next election approaching, his statements are sure to generate significant discussion and debate among voters and political analysts alike.
