In a statement released on social media, Senator Brown highlighted the significant threat posed by Chinese electric vehicles to the US auto sector. His remarks represent one of the most forceful positions taken by any US legislator on this matter, particularly following the announcement by the White House in February of an inquiry into whether Chinese vehicles present a national security risk.
“We cannot allow China to bring its government-backed cheating into the American auto industry,” Senator Brown emphasized in a video message. As a Democrat from Ohio, a state renowned for its automobile manufacturing, Brown is currently campaigning for re-election to a fourth term in the upcoming November elections.
President Biden had previously expressed concerns in February about the potential influx of Chinese vehicles into the US market and the associated risks to national security.
