
In the early hours of Tuesday, approximately a hundred ardent supporters of Bayern Munich and Galatasaray found themselves embroiled in a tumultuous altercation in one of Istanbul’s bustling bar districts, setting the stage for their much-anticipated Champions League encounter.
According to Turkish media reports, the skirmish left four German fans and one Turkish fan with minor injuries, although authorities have yet to press any charges in connection with the incident. Street surveillance cameras captured footage of fans hurling chairs and various small objects in the heart of Istanbul’s renowned Beyoglu district, a hotspot for tourists and a favored destination for Galatasaray enthusiasts.
Tensions reached a boiling point when the confrontation spilled over into one of the Istanbul side’s merchandise stores, prompting swift intervention by the local police. The IHA news agency disclosed that the brawl involved 70 German and 30 Turkish fans, indicating the scale of the altercation.
As of now, the German consulate in Istanbul has not issued any official statements or comments regarding the incident.
